Spring Musical

OVERVIEW
Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, BIG FISH centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest… and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him – most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales. Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft, BIG FISH is an extraordinary Broadway musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre – for an experience that’s richer, funnier and BIGGER than life itself.

DATES TO NOTE
Auditions: Thursday December 12th and Friday December 13th from 3:00-6:00 (Auditorium)
Performance Dates: April 4th, 5th, and 6th
Rehearsal Schedule: January-March (TBD)*

CAST NOTES
This is a larger cast than last year.  It is open to 7th-12th grade Ontario students. There are many opportunities to be involved on stage in larger roles and smaller roles.  With some of the circus themes, we are definitely looking for some individuals that have some circus-type skills (tumbling/gymnastics, juggling, stilt-work, etc).  Cast descriptions are available in the Google Form for audition sign ups.
*Larger cast and ensemble meaning rehearsals will be split and not everyone will be required to be at every rehearsal or for the full duration through the earlier stages.

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
This show is open to our 7th and 8th grade OMS students. However, please understand this is a large time commitment and you must be able to have reliable transportation to and from rehearsals in the evenings, some of which will go late, especially as we get closer to the performance dates. We will do our best to communicate as accurate a calendar and schedule as possible, but it will also require some flexibility as we adjust to the needs of the show.  Also understand it will require a certain level of maturity from our middle school students as they will be mixed with our high school students.  While middle school students are certainly welcomed and encouraged to participate, these productions will largely prioritize our high school students for the prominent roles.

Students found a unique way to "hang-out" in the morning before classes... make your own seating!

The OMS Leadership Council is hosting a Thanksgiving Drive next week 11/18-11/22 to sponsor some local charities that are in need with the approaching holiday season!  We are collecting non-perishable food items, personal care items, toilet paper, and canned goods.  Items can be turned in to students Warrior Time and the three classes that donate the most items per student will receive pizza or a sweet treat before heading into Thanksgiving Break!  We are hoping together we can help pay-it-forward to those in need this holiday!

Students Make Presentations

Eighth graders read Tuesdays with Morrie and completed several projects. On Monday, November 4th, parents were invited to a sharing experience to walk around and learn about all that our 8th graders have been working hard on. Thank you for coming parents!!

Food Safety “Fun”damentals

In recent weeks, students in Ms. Owen's Family and Consumer Science classes have been engaged in hands-on learning about kitchen safety. They explored essential topics like preventing cross-contamination, practiced accurate measurement techniques, took part in a measurement challenge, and enjoyed a kitchen scavenger hunt. In 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th periods, students tackled “The Kitchen Mishap” case—an interactive mystery set up in Kitchen #4 with caution tape, crime scene markers, a strawberry sauce-covered knife, a chalk outline, and various kitchen hazards. Students worked to piece together what happened to the "injured" party while identifying potential safety risks.

The last week culminated in a baking project on Thursday and Friday, where students across all six periods made cookies for the school dance, enjoying the treats they created. These engaging activities not only teach valuable life skills but also make learning fun and interactive.

Pioneer Tour

Eighth grade students recently received a tour of Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby. Students were provided the opportunity to see for themselves some of the 35 programs the school offers. As the students moved about the building, they were given the chance to interact with some of the technologies, equipment, and tools as well as ask questions to the many staff members available to take their questions.
