Through participation in Competitive Events, FCCLA members gain crucial industry insights and develop skills essential for success in the 21st century. Members can choose from more than 50 events that build on the skills and knowledge acquired through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Competing at regional, state, and national levels allows members to explore career pathways and tackle significant issues in their personal lives, workplaces, and communities. It has been incredibly rewarding to watch the growth of Ontario Middle School students through these competitions.
This year, we were thrilled to take six teams to the FCCLA District Leadership Conference in March at Penta Career Center. The students showcased their talents in various categories: Makenna Gray, Rychel Rehberg, and Molly Weaver in Entrepreneurship received bronze; Aria Edgell, Amelia McCoy, and Addison Smith in Focus on Children received gold; Ava Kightlinger, Ella Kunkle-Krock, and August Rau in Food Innovations received bronze; McKenzie Shick in Nutrition and Wellness received bronze; Lean Bonen, Haylee Breitinger, Gia Gfrer, Aadi Kightlinger, Alex McAleer, Olicia Sandwall, and Kennedy Sapp in Parliamentary Procedure received bronze; and Yuka Mori and Natalie Sipes in Repurpose and Redesign received silver.
To our delight, five of these six teams advanced to the State FCCLA Leadership Conference held on April 25-26 in Columbus, OH. Four of these teams placed in the top three in their categories. The Parliamentary Procedure team won second place with a silver rating. The Entrepreneurship, Nutrition and Wellness, and Repurpose and Redesign teams each secured third place with bronze and silver ratings, respectively. Teams achieving a silver rating and scoring 80 or higher qualify for the National FCCLA Leadership Conference, set for June 29 - July 3, 2024, in Seattle, Washington. We recently received the fantastic news that the Parliamentary Procedure team will be advancing to Nationals with a score of 81.6667.
I cannot express enough how proud I am of each student’s hard work, dedication, and courage to step outside their comfort zones. Their efforts have certainly not gone unnoticed. We eagerly anticipate the upcoming national competition in Seattle and future events. Please join me in congratulating these students on their remarkable achievements!
